Software issues on MacBook Pro, including disk utility failure, Safari crashes, app instability, and touchbar server malfunction

i’ve had to redo this message as it got retitled as a touchbar issue. my mac is falling apart. not hardware wise (although it could be) but software wise. there is something very wrong with the system on my mac. it’s a 13” M2 Pro. disk utility fails to pickup any external devices. safari has stopped working. apps randomly crash after they started lagging. whenever i tried to use cleanmymac to see if it was a malware problem, went unresponsive. tried using a slicer for some 3d models earlier. as soon as i clicked on the file the app went unrepsonvie. some drives fail to mount. everything seems a bit laggy. touchbar server seems to just kill itself sometimes and usually a restart fixes it for a bit. now finder will not open. i can only use already open apps, and when i try to open one (e.g. finder) it just goes onto the beachball until force quit/relaunched. it’s so bad now it’s at the point where a restart could completely crumble the whole system. what do i do. i have no external drive or anything except an old sandisk which i fear would even show up any more on the mac. i’m not sure what’s happening but i need it fixed. any suggestions?

I see that you are using CleanMyMac. that could very well be the root of your issues. using it often results in the issues you are seeing, along with endless other issues. apps like those are neither needed nor wanted on a Mac.

I would start with totally uninstalling CMM, as well as any other apps you may have that claim to "speed up" or "clean up" or otherwise "optimize" your Mac.

and depending on how long you've been using CMM, and any damage to macOS that likely has caused, a full erase and reinstall might be necessary.
