Watch won’t update a message states an error occurred while checking for a software update. Can’t update from the watch app on phone because it says I have to update phone first. Watch states that it is up to date. Already tried unpairing and force start both watch an phone. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. Does anyone have any solutions. Thanks

You need a newer iPhone or to give up on updating the watch.
It isn't possible to update the watch to 26 while it's paired to an iPhone XR or other unit incapable of that version; if updated from a newer model, it can't be paired with the original one afterwards.

Thank you I wasn’t aware that my XR iPhone was the issue. Really considering ditching my Apple Watch and iPhone to android devices. It’s frustrating when you have to keep upgrading to newer models.
