How might one make the calculator bigger? Should be the easiest thing ever in 2025.

I opened up the calculator by clicking on the little icon in the dock that looks like a handheld calculator from the 1980s.

It is called "Calculator" Version 11.0 (224).

It looks very small on the screen of my brand-new 2025 MacBook Air. This is probably because designers are typically young, and might not realize that many human eyes after 40 years begin to deteriorate in various ways.

But it's 2025, so I simply tried to grab a corner or do any of the other many things people do to change the size of things on computer screens some 48 years after the introduction of the TRS-80.

It didn't work. Am I missing something?

I just went to Google Search, made by perhaps a more competent monopoly, to quickly calculate what I needed to calculate in a size I could see, but it still irks me. What am I missing? My 8-year-old can make me a calculator online using Python that I can easily use and read, but I just want my expensive new laptop to do it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The scientific option makes it bigger...

...but I see no option to resize.

However it appears this is not new. I checked the calculator on an older Mac running 10.14 Mojave (2018) and it does not resize either.

Apple won't hear what your 8-year old can do here. We are all other users like you and Apple does not staff these forums. To place this where it will be seen an Apple employee charged with monitoring bug reports and feature requests, I invite you to use this feedback link:

You could check out calculator apps in the App Store.

I saw a "Resizable Calculator Pro", a very basic "Big-Calculator", as well as some others that might have bigger buttons than the calculator built into macOS.

(I like the "15C Scientific Calculator", but it wouldn't help with your issue. The button and display sizes are not significantly different from those of the Mac's Calculator, and as with it, they are non-adjustable.)

If you want a truly functional calculator I highly recommend Pcalc on the Mac App Store. I have been using it since the mid-1990s:

Yes I bought it. Several times in fact. I just keep that version around for laughs.

The older ones don't run any more:

Ten bucks and worth many times that much.

I once posted what I really thought of the native macOS Calculator app on this site. It was removed. Use your imagination.
