Several problems here.

(1) I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 16" and it originally came with Catalina 10.15, starting in November 2019. Yosemite was introduced in 2014 and its last release was July 2017. So your MacBook Pro cannot run Yosemite, it's not physically possible.

(2) You bought a Mac on eBay, never a good idea. So many problems reported here with eBay purchases.

(3) Apparently you never erased the internal drive and installed a clean system, as is recommended before using any used computer from anywhere or anyone. If you haven't done what is indicated here What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support you should do it now and start over. You may have all kinds of gremlins lurking inside this used computer.

(4) Maybe there is some way to run Yosemite on a newer Mac that cannot run it normally, through some sort of virtual machine. In any case, you should erase everything and install a clean system so nothing is lurking in there.

(5) Typing a wrong password just results in a quick "shake" of the password box and you are prompted to enter the password again.

(6) I am wondering what model of Mac you have really purchased here. Misrepresentation is common on eBay.

Your post is a bit confusing.

A Mac running Sequoia, would not be able to run Yosemite. The oldest MacBook Pro that can run Sequoia is a 2018 model and shipped with High Sierra which was released 3 years after Yosemite (2014).

Sounds like you are misinterpreting what you are seeing.

Also, typing a wrong password, would not case a different macOS version to load, much less one as old as Yosemite.

Where are you seeing that whatever is running is Yosemite exactly?

It is impossible for it to be Yosemite. Period.

Not sure what you are seeing exactly, again where do you see its Yosemite exactly?

What is it about what you are seeing that make you say its Yosemite?

Its impossible to offer any advise or suggestions if you don't clarify what it is that is happening that think its Yosemite?

A wallpaper? the account user name? a folder? A window?

What are you seeing that is Yosemite?

A screen shot may be useful in determining what is happening.

The first time my son opened it, Yosemeti turned up and he signed in, with a password. He even used the site for a while I'm told. I re-installed Sequoia, and all seemed well, but today, when I miss-typed my password, I left it to make tea, and when I returned it was asking me for the Yosemeti password ... with prompt! I understand that this can't be happening, because of the age of Yosemeti, but something is acting very much like it. If this is a bug of some sort, how do I get it out?
