I would not recommend some off brand / Amazon Saturday night special.

Apple used Proprietary drives in these Macs, and changed the form factor and interface often. You will not find a commodity drive that can serve as a direct replacement .

OWC/Macsales engineered several of their own drives, to serve as direct replacements. They also sell a small selection of compatible external enclosures, sometimes available bundled with a new drive.

There are some very strong restrictions for what MacOS needs to be have been installed (to get the required Firmware updates) before switching over. That updated firmware is stored on a private store on the processor card, not on any drive. Once that firmware has been updated by the installation of the required version of MacOS, the old drive can be removed with impunity.
