MacBook cannot be recovered [Error Message: -2006F)

I cannot proceed to the Recovery Page. I keep on receiving support.apple.com/mac/startup-2006F.



What is meant by error message -200F. And how I proceed in recovering my Mac

Unfortunately Apple provides no details on these error codes. These large negative error codes with Internet Recovery Mode are due to some sort of network issue.


You can try connecting the computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable (may require an appropriate adapter) for a faster more reliable network connection which bypasses difficult to troubleshoot WiFi issues.


You can try power cycling the router, making sure to wait at least five minutes for the router to finish booting.


You can also try it at a different physical location to bypass your the network in your home...hopefully with a different ISP.


If it is a 2018+ Mac, then you can try a DFU Firmware Revive which unfortunately requires access to another Mac running macOS 26.x Tahoe (or possibly macOS 15.x Sequoia).


FYI, when asking for assistance online, it is best to always provide the exact model of your computer and version of macOS. You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac", or if the Mac is not booting, then enter the system serial number on the Apple check coverage page here, but don't post the serial number on the forum since it is considered personal information:

You should also mention why you are reinstalling macOS or trying to fix your current macOS installation because the same issues that are causing you to reinstall macOS could be the same issues giving you problems reinstalling macOS.


Another option is to create a bootable macOS USB installer using the instructions in the following Apple article assuming you have a Mac compatible with the OS:

If you are trying to perform a clean install of macOS on an M-series Mac, then you can also perform a DFU Firmware Restore which will push a clean version of macOS onto the internal SSD (destroys all data on the internal SSD).

Thanks for confirming. This tells me that you have the 2017 model. There was no 2016 model of the MBAir......for the A1466 designation they had 2012, Mid-2013, Late-2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 models. The year of purchase is not the model (sometimes it may match).


When the OS download is about to finish, the operation suddenly quits and states that the computer encountered an issue while installing the File. I am not sure what to do anymore. I really need this to work.

Thanks for the extra details, but you still haven't told us what happened to your Mac. Were you having any issues with the Mac shortly before you got to this point of booting into Recovery Mode and/or reinstalling macOS?


I also think that there was a problem with the Disk Utility. I am seeing two Drives: APPLE SSD SM0128G Media (Internal) and APPLE DISK IMAGE MEDIA (Disk Image).

Ignore the "Disk Image". It is a virtual volume and cannot be used as a destination. Only the physical drive "Apple SSD SM0128G Media" and any sub-items are associated with the internal drive. Ignore any items that are not listed under "Internal".


For Apple SSD SM0128G Media, I created a volume where the OS can be downloaded. I created the volume using “Partition.” The drive is 121.33GB.

Did this drive already have any partitions on it? If so, then creating another partition won't help since this 120GB SSD just barely has enough room for a single partition containing an OS.


As for Apple Disk Image Media, I cannot do anything. In that drive, there is a volume named “OS X Base System.” I cannot do anything in this Drive and Volume. It only has 2.01GB.

Launch the Terminal app from the Utilities menu on the menubar while booted to the installer and run the following command so we can see the drive layout on your internal SSD:

diskutil  list  internal


Show us the complete output....a picture may be best. Also, mention the version of macOS installer being used to boot the laptop to get this information (the installer information is to help interpret the results of the command).


Do you have any external USB3 drives handy that can be erased....SSD is best, but even a Hard Drive would be sufficient for testing purposes?


Do you have access to another Mac from about 2015 to mid-2022? If not, do you have access to any other Macs? If so what are their exact models? You can get the exact model by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac". This is to see if it may be possible to create a bootable macOS USB installer for Monterey (or even a slightly older OS, but newer than Sierra).

Try booting into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R instead to attempt to access the online for the most recent version of macOS compatible with your computer. Unfortunately some Macs may still only boot to the online installer for the version of macOS which originally shipped with the computer from the factory.


You cannot install an older version of macOS over top a newer version. To install an older version of macOS would require a clean install of macOS by first erasing the disk destroying all data on it, or installing the OS alongside Monterey onto a new APFS volume (requires macOS 10.13+ and at least 100GB of Free storage space), or install it onto an external USB3 SSD.


I dislike how Apple named two versions of macOS so similarly as it causes so much confusion. Are you booted into the macOS Sierra installer or the High Sierra installer?

When I proceed with Disk Utility, I cannot do more than just running the First Aid. When I opened the log, it says that it failed to connect with the server.

That server error is well known by the regular forum contributors when trying to reinstall macOS 10.13 High Sierra, but it is certainly possible other older macOS online installers also have that issue. Using Fix #3 in the following article can resolve the "Cannot connect to server" issue with High Sierra (or any other online installer):

Hi. I followed your advice. I can access the recovery page from a different location. However, I cannot install the MacOS.


When I clicked the Reinstall MacOS, it directs me to Install the OS Sierra. But my previous OS is Monterrey. When I click proceed to install Sierra, the Disk is not showing. I cannot select any Disk because there is none.


When I proceed with Disk Utility, I cannot do more than just running the First Aid. When I opened the log, it says that it failed to connect with the server.
