iPad Pro CTDI Device Supervision

I purchased my new iPad Pro from Apple last June. The other day I noticed an announcement under Settings|General that states that my iPad is under CTDI device supervision. I read the pop-up description of CTDI, which referred me to Settings|VPN, which contains two profiles. Is this normal? Is my iPad under CTDI supervision or not? Any reasons here for me to be concerned?

Your iPad being supervised indicates that a management profile is present - and that the device is likely centrally managed by an Enterprise or Educational establishment.  Management profiles can sometimes be installed by an App, or if signing-up to a managed service.

Devices that are supervised/configuration locked by an MDM platform can usually only be released from central management by the platform that manages the device. Be aware that Apple will not assist with removal of management profiles.

Unless you are lucky - and have the option to delete the profile from iPad Settings (your screenshot shows two installed configuration profiles) - you’ll need to seek assistance directly from the System Administrator who manages the device.

If purchased directly from Apple, it is highly unlikely that the iPad is pre-owned - unless purchased as a refurbished device. In the latter case, Apple will ensure that the device is effectively free of any prior management or functional restrictions.

Have you attempted to remove the installed configuration profiles as previous directed?

As you indicate that iPad is both new and supplied directly from Apple - should you be unable to remove the profiles yourself - you would be best advised to seek assistance from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. If the iPad was mistakenly supplied to you in this condition, Apple will undoubtedly resolve the issue. If instead the management profile was applied post-purchase, you will need to identify the source.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

I just concluded a long session with a Senior Tech Support advisor. He was unable to discover the reason for the CTDI announcement on my iPad. Even after the removal of the profiles and a complete wipe of the hard drive, we were unable to eliminate the CTI announcement. Apple will be sending me a new replacement iPad! I am very happy with this resolution.
