Screen Not filled Edge to edge

Hi everyone, first time posting here. I just upgraded from a 2020 M1 MacBook Air to the new 15‑inch M4 MacBook Air, and I’ve noticed something really frustrating. On my old MacBook, apps in full screen would fill the display edge to edge. But on the new one, when I go full screen, the area where the Dock would normally be just shows up as a black strip — basically dead space. What makes it worse is that my screen saver does fill edge to edge, so I know the display is capable of it. I’m pretty annoyed, because on Sequoia it used to be edge to edge without this issue.
