Should I replace my slow iMac with a MacBook for basic tasks?

I don’t use my iMac very much but use my MacBook everyday. My iMac is sluggish despite trying to get it fixed and it frustrates me. Is there any reason why I should have a desktop i.e can I survive without a desktop? I just really use websites, emails and Pages so basic stuff really.

Not specifically.

You are free to use a laptop computer as your only computer if you want. It's entirely your decision.

They are. both computers and both do exactly the same things.

Perhaps if you run an Etrecheck report on the iMac, someone here can look at it and provide some suggestions to improve the performance of the iMac.

A rule of thumb with notebooks is that you pay in some way ($$$, performance, expandability) for portability – but for many years, notebooks have been "capable enough" for a lot of people to use them as their only computer.

You can pair a notebook computer with a docking station, large monitor, full-size keyboard, and mouse, if you like, which would let you have a nice big screen for browsing Web sites and editing word processing documents when you were at home.
