It's just a short USB-A to USB-C cable. It works with both of the other keyboards mentioned in comments. Also, the dongle for a mouse works in one of the two USB-A plugs on the bottom of the old A1243
What converter are you using exactly?
Also, are you trying to connect the keyboard using the one of USB ports on the under side of the keyboard instead of the attached cable? If so, then that's never going to work.

I have the same extend keyboard and it works fine with my M1 MacBook Air running macOS 26 Tahoe.

Keyboard A1242 (2008) does work. It prompted "allow peripheral?" and works. Why won't the newer extended keyboard work?
An older A1243, "2007", works. Problem solved due to having lots of old Mac stuff lying around.
