QuickLook Bug & Memory Leak

I have just discovered a bug that occurs when I scroll through many files in Finder while QuickLook active. It starts off normal then after 10 or so scrolls using my directional keypad the window would freeze along with the app. Then minutes later the system would be very laggy. Here's a sample of what my Activity Monitor showed during this time

This is pretty bad. It happens after I reset my laptop. Not sure what to do here besides not use QuickLook anymore

If as has been suggested by my colleague @Barney-15

There is some Third Party Software ( outside of Logitech ) that has Mucked Up the system, which I tend to agree with

Reinstalling the OS over the Top of the Existing installation will do nothing but consume your time

If one does the Erase All Contents and Setting and stop there - full stop

That would be a good indicator just where it issue really is

Or if you are inclined

To avoid a session of Q&A, Q&A  and Q&A

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid for added features.

Not seeing the issue.

What does that mean "after I reset my laptop"...?

Always meaningful to state the exact Mac(?) intel/M-series...

and exact macOS...

I just QuickLooked through my entire Recents Smart Folder and nothing on the Memory page changed much at all. No freezing or lags here.

As noted previously, there is something quite odd going on with your Mac. You are showing zero actual RAM and 50+GB of swap. My guess would be some third-party system modification is mucking up your Mac. I can't really see anything that would do so from your Activity Monitor screen. Logitech's drivers have always lagged behind macOS upgrades and will usually cause problems until they get around to updating them. However, I can't see them causing this issue. If you are using a Logitech keyboard and using that to move through files, that could be it.

Some of the Over Arching issues have been addressed in your other question

How can I reduce memory pressure on my Ma… - Apple Community

I would suggest shutting down the computer then start up normally again

This should release the Finder using 2.72 GB, WindowServer using 1.11 GB, Netflix.com from using 1.01 GB, Spotify Helper using 364.6 MB and QuickLookUIService using 149.5 MB

As for a Memory Leakage in QuickLookUIService - what exactly does the user believe constitutes QuicklookUIService has a memory leak

Though, I maybe overlooking something here

But something seems odd from your image

Most everything is being measure in MB or GB in some cases

The Memory Pressure is in RED ( Maxed out )

But all the other values, like Physical Memory which is zero is measured in Bytes

With the Swap Using 51.53 measured as GB

From the little I know

When the Physical Memory is ALL used up, the System maybe pushed using a Swap File as Temporary RAM

reinstallation of OS didn't help. I think I'll have to take it in for service

Having the computer serviced by the Apple Genius Bar or by an AARP maybe is a good idea

Though be also aware they may check the Hardware and or at your specific request to do a Remove all Content and Setting which has already been suggested by self 🦉-53

What was suggested is what we sometimes call Do It Yourself

Thanks for your response.

Excuse me, I meant 'after reset' to suggest that the issue isn't due to a need of reset, so I really meant to exclaim that I've already tried it

I have a screen recording that illustrates the condition, I'll explain my interactions you can't see in support of your view. My Mac system:

Build MacBook Air

Chip M4

Memory 24GB

Startup Disk Macintosh HD

Serial # *************

OS 26.0.1 (25A362)

  1. I am in Safe Mode, I've chosen any folder (desktop) to proceed with QuickLook viewing
  2. After a number of hits within my DPad (laptop keyboard) I get stuck on file reading 'College of Education,' I can't escape the QuickLook with the X icon or esc, only hitting the spacebar works.
  3. Give it the remainder of the video to see memory pressure rise until it's yellow (I won't let it reach red)

Thanks

I have started reinstallation of Tahoe. Hopefully this will wipe away

The OS is mounted read only from a sealed snapshot. It cannot get modified or even corrupted. The initial installation could somehow be bad, but not common. All of the third-party modifications happen outside the OS. A reinstall could possibly solve a problem if it was a bad install, but otherwise will be fruitless.
