I have a mid 2017 iMac 27 inch purchased in 2018, can I use as a monitor if I buy a new Mac mini

I have a mid 2017 iMac 27 inch purchased in 2018, can I use as a monitor if I buy a new Mac mini? I am looking to renew my computer at home and want to buy a MacMini....and rather than have to buy a new screen as well...since my iMac monitor is perfect....was wondering if possible to use as my screen for a new Mini?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.7

No. Not directly. There is no support for Target Display mode on either the 2017 iMac nor any new Mac mini.

There are 3rd party solutions such as LunaDisplay, but those can introduce lag if you use it for things like video editing or fast paced video games. Things like word processing documents and spreadsheets should work fine as would email and web browsing in general.

+1, in short no. To operate the MM it must have a dedicated monitor. Don't worry, new displays are available for as low as $100 or you can spend up to $1600. However for about $300-$400 you can find a VERY nice display.

Also, please remember when configurating the new MM to buy one with adequate RAM and storage. A good sweet spot for most users is 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Finally, when the new MM arrives in order to migrate from the 2017 iMac please follow the instructions in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant for a quick, simple and trouble free migration.
