older ipad mini and old email was shut down by suddenlink

I have an older ipad mini that am trying to sign in with password. wants me to use email account i no longer have access to. Do have an account under mail@icloud.com. You can verify last name is the same. I need to set up again on a new network and won't let me sign in to ipad. there is no way to access old email since suddenlink shut email down. how can i get the ipad mini open?

This is a user to user forum, you are not addressing Apple Support here. As such we cannot verify anything here.
As long as you know the password for the Apple Account, the existence oarlock there of of the email address is not relevant.
If you no longer know the password for the Apple Account (unrelated to the password for the email account, though it could be the same one) you will need to contact Apple support to recover access to the Apple Account which will be a bit harder without access to the Email account.
