MacBook Pro Retina 13 Inch

Sometimes the sound is distorted.

How can I resolve this issue?

It helps if you include the exact model of your laptop. You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac". FYI, this information is almost always relevant & needed when asking for assistance online. Including the exact version of macOS is also generally a good idea as well.

If it happens to be a MBPro model 2013-2015, then the speakers are just worn out due to age. The speakers in these particular Macs have an extremely high rate of failure after about a few years. AFAIK, there are no new replacement speakers available for these models.

My organization never had many of the 2012 Retina model, but it would not surprise me that it would suffer the same issue as the other Retina models from 2013-2015....they have a similar redesign even though they are not directly compatible with the later Late-2013 to 2015 models.

If external speakers, headphones, or earbuds don't have the same audio issues, then it is a hardware issue with your built-in speakers.

Unfortunately the only speakers available are used ones which may very likely suffer the same fate or have other issues since they are failing due to age.

I don't know what it is involved to replace them on the Retina 13" 2012 model, but for the MBPro 13" Late-2013 to 2015 models the speakers were easy to replace. The most difficult & risky part was disconnecting them from the Logic Board without pulling off the connectors from the Logic Board since some are quite a tight fit. I believe the Late-2012 & Early-2013 models are likely done the same way.
