New MacBook: Websites won’t load + App Store stuck on “Loading…”

Device / OS

  • Mac model: New MacBook (chip: Apple Silicon)
  • macOS version: (macOS 15.7 Sequoia)
  • Network: Home Wi-Fi / Office / Mobile Hotspot
  • Security software/VPN/Proxy: None/Name if any

Symptoms

  1. Browsers hang on login pages (Google, Apple ID, banking, etc.). Page shows perpetual loading spinner; never completes.
  2. App Store shows only “Loading…” when opening, and I cannot install new apps or update existing apps.
  3. Similar behavior across Safari and Chrome/Edge (if installed).

What I’ve tried

  • Restarted Mac and router.
  • Tested multiple networks (home Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot).
  • Disabled VPN/proxy/firewall (if any).
  • Signed out/in of App Store and Apple ID (System Settings).
  • Cleared Safari website data (Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data → Remove All).
  • Ensured Date & Time are set automatically (Settings → General → Date & Time → “Set automatically” ON).
  • Free space available: __ GB.

Additional checks I plan to try (need guidance if anything looks risky):

  1. Safe Mode test (isolates login items/caches)
    • Shut down → hold Power until “Loading startup options” → select startup disk → hold Shift → “Continue in Safe Mode”.
    • If Safe Mode works, a login item/extension may be the cause.
  1. New user test
    • Settings → Users & Groups → add a new Admin user → log in and test.
  1. DNS / network stack reset
    • Temporarily set DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 (Settings → Wi-Fi → Details → DNS).
    • Forget Wi-Fi network and re-join.
  1. Reset App Store/services caches (run in Terminal):
  2. killall -9 App\ Store storeaccountd storedownloadd
  3. rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
  4. rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/storeaccountd
  5. rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.appstore
  6. defaults delete com.apple.appstore 2>/dev/null
  7. open -a "App Store"
  8. System update via Terminal (if App Store UI won’t load):
  9. softwareupdate --list
  10. sudo softwareupdate -ia --verbose
  11. Safari/Keychain sanity check
    • Safari → Settings → Privacy → “Manage Website Data…” → Remove All.
    • Keychain Access → lock/unlock “login”; ensure no corrupted duplicate iCloud items.
  1. Check Screen Time / Content Restrictions
    • Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Off (for test).
  1. Profile/MDM/Proxy
    • Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles (remove unknown profiles).
    • Settings → Network → VPN & Proxies (turn off any proxies; remove unknown VPNs).

have you restarted in safe mode?

Safe Mode does a number of different things. On older Intel Macs, hold shift at startup, but have your userid and password at the ready.

A parade of unusual things happens.

• Your Mac loads just enough of the kernel to do a disk check. Then it proceeds to do a disk check. This can take an extra about five minutes.

• your userid and password are required, even if you normally auto-login. So have them handy.

• Your Mac adds ONLY a minimal set of Apple-Only extensions, Not including graphics acceleration extensions. Screen updates will therefore be wonky and slow, but it ultimately should be correct.

• Your Mac assumes defaults for as many settings as possible, including screen resolution. This is the key for re-setting the screen, but there is a little more to it: Resolution is likely to be temporarily lower and settings ordinary. Use this as a starting point to customize settings to your liking.

If you make NO changes, regular mode will just revert to what you had set before, so DO make changes!

Any changes you make in Safe Mode will "stick" in regular mode after you restart.

• after a Restart in normal mode, your Mac will take slightly longer to start up [once] because it rebuilds some system caches.

"Works in Safe mode, fails in regular mode" implies "It's something you added".
