Apple Music not importing other music files on macOS Sequoia

On my macbook air, after successfully buying and downloading music from apple music, the app "Music" no longer imports any other music files, neither over the menu item "Import...", nor by drag and drop. It simply does nothing.

I have version 1.5.6.11 of "Music" and macos "Sequoia" 15.7.1 which are all up to date.

They should download from the Apple servers once you log into your Apple Account in Music.

You misunderstood: My purchases downloaded alright. The problem is that afterwards, the app no longer imports any other mp3 files that I have on my computer.
