Stuck on “Remote Management – This Mac belongs to Cisco Systems” after reset

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me what I should do with my wife's old MacBook.

She bought this MacBook used in August 2023 from a store in Jakarta, Indonesia (not an official Apple reseller, just some store selling used Macbooks). And then a couple days ago she just bought a new MacBook from Best Buy in Oakland, CA, USA, and did a full data migration successfully.

After that, she decided to erase and reset her old MacBook, but when it restarted, she got stuck on a screen that says:

“This Mac belongs to Cisco Systems.”

Remote Management – The configuration will be provided automatically when you connect to the Internet.

That surprised her because she had no idea this Mac was ever managed by Cisco. she can’t access the desktop or bypass this screen.

It looks like the Mac might still be enrolled in Cisco’s MDM (Mobile Device Management) system.

She lost contact with the store that sold it — they were a small used laptop shop in Jakarta.

Does anyone know the best way to fix this?

Should she contact Apple Support directly, or is there any way Apple can help remove it from Cisco’s system?

We're not sure if emailing Cisco would help since she's not their employee.

Any advice or similar experience would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Only Cisco can remove the remote management.

It looks like the "small used laptop" store selling the used MacBooks may have sold your wife stolen property. (It doesn't help that she "lost contact" with them – did they "disappear", or stop responding to communications?)

At the very least, they sold her a Mac that had not been prepared properly for a new owner.

Apple will not remove the Mac from Cisco's MDM system.

If the notebook is one that "walked off", Cisco might want their property back.
