Mac mini M3 was released in 2024 and has
Thunderbolt 5 ports (backward-compatible with ThunderBolt-4) and an HDMI 2.1 port
You could connect it and expect 120 Hz operation using:
• Thunderbolt-5 (on the back) of the Mini, using a Thunderbolt 4 or better cable limited to 0.5 meters maximum length -- this would allow you to use the additional ports such as Ethernet port and USB-C on the display at the same time)
• HDMI port using ULTRA certified HDMI cable of modest length. (but additional cables would be needed to support any additional ports on the display)
NB>> For this use, Thunderbolt 5 cables are not required, and are not fundamentally different than ThunderBolt-4 cables. Thunderbolt-5 runs at the same nominal speed, but is backward-compatible.
When talking to other ThunderBolt-5 devices, the interface changes to a modulated signal with multiple patterns per signaling interval.
