Welcome!
I am retired and not longer using pro output gear but, at home, we have found a parallel to your observation:
Today, it seems like most printers are really cheap, don’t last and are somewhat troublesome.
I've scrapped more cheap printers than I can count, but now have some relief. Several years ago we bought a home/office-class Epson Eco-Tank 3850 and it has been stunningly good. We've yet to add ink and have had only one incident of clogged heads that cleared in under five minutes with normal on-board maintenance routines. That model has an ethernet port; we found wired networked printers far less prone to slowness and odd failures.
If there is a downside to our model, it is its 4-ink nature. It doesn't do color photos quite as well as the previous Epson cartridge model that was six-color. Still, the difference is quite small and color seems good enough for fast proofs of files that would be externally printed.
You might want to see if Epson has a tank model that handles larger formats than US Legal.
