AirPod pro won’t connect after Tahoe upgrade

Yesterday I installed Tahoe on my laptop. After it completed, 2 of my 3 pairs of AirPod pros will not work or connect to either my phone or laptop.

I started trying to fix the problem by disconnecting all of them from my devices. I also removed the from “Find My”.

Now, on my newest Gen 2 pair, the amber light on the case blinks. I attempted to reset them by holding the button for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds I hear 3 short beeps and the amber light keeps flashing. They don’t go into pairing mode. My phone does seem to recognize them as AirPods that don’t belong to you” but I can’t pair them.

My Gen 1 pair gives me an error that says the case contains one Gen1 and one Gen2 AirPod and they are not compatible. But this is clearly not accurate - they are both gen1. They also will not connect.

All 3 were working fine until the Tahoe upgrade. Now I am only able to connect my older Gen2 pair (which have some damage so I use them as a backup).

Anyone else having trouble?

Re: AirPod pro won’t connect after Tahoe upgrade

MacOS Tahoe was a major upgrade. There may be re-indexing and more going on in the background as the update process may continue completing after you have access to you Mac.

Wondering if the AirPods firmware is up to date:

See: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

(AirPods generally update automatically if Mac OS (or iOS) is up-to-date.)

You may want to check: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"If the status light doesn't flash white when you reset your AirPods"

  1. Put your AirPods in the charging case and close the lid for 20 seconds.
  2. Open the lid of your charging case.
  3. Depending on your model of AirPods:
  • For AirPods 1, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro 1, or AirPods Pro 2,

press and hold the setup button on the case again for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then flashes white.

  • For AirPods 4 models and AirPods Pro 3, double-tap the front of the case while the status light is on, double-tap again when the status light flashes white. When the status light flashes faster, double-tap a third time, until the status light flashes amber, then flashes white.

To reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your device, then follow the steps on your device's screen.

Wondering if you checked the serial numbers. It's not hard to accidentally swap an AirPod with someone else. See what to do: If you get an alert that says 'Mismatched AirPods' or 'AirPods Mismatch' - Apple Support
