HLS movies not syncing to iPad Air

I just upgraded to a new iPad Air and want to sync with my desktop Mac. Some movies in the desktop TV app don't show up in the list of all my movies, and they all happen to be HLS files. The older MPEG 4 and other files appear and can be synced. How do I get them to show up in the Finder window to select for syncing?
