iCloud password on PC window crashing

After waiting for so long to see if it this issue would fix’s itself by an Apple or Windows update or starting fresh on my Windows OS I finally figured out how to fix the issue. Most of a post I started to recently see was saying to fix that issue you had to delete any shared password. All that is WRONG! Well at least for me because it didn’t work. I even erased all my passkeys. I’ll list step by step how to do it and it works. I waiting 2 days to make sure it still keep functioning, and it is

  1. Open iCloud Password on PC and leave it open. Do not try to sign in yet(assuming you had to enter a password to get into your passwords.

2.Open iCloud app turn off iCloud Password

3.Go to iCloud Password on iPhone.

4.Select all passwords and delete. They will be in the trash so it’s not completely erased from your device.

5.This step might not be necessary but I did it anyways just to be on the safe side, but again you might not need to.

Open iCloud Password enter your password to sign in to the app

6.Now app window should not crash anymore. Create a password or anything, like I said might be a meaningless step.

7.Leave iCloud Password on PC open. Go to IPhone password. Go to trash and restore your password.

8.Go to iCloud Windows App. Turn on iCloud Password.

9.Close all windows. After that next tIme you open iCloud Password on PC it should function properly.

Thank you so much for posting! I started with your recommendation and it still didn't work but what it did help me do is discover that I can add the passwords back in batches, while the password sync toggle is "ON" on the icloud app AND the password app is opened. So after I deleted all my 900 passwords and before recovering, I opened up password app. Then I started adding my passwords in batches of 50 until the passwords app on windows crashed. I was able to narrow it down to this specific one:

Why this one broke everything

page.link is Google’s Firebase Dynamic Link domain.

Apple’s iCloud Passwords has a bug where passwords with “page.link” and incomplete metadata (missing password, missing URL structure, old passkey remnants) corrupt the sync blob.

This matches:

  • No password
  • No website metadata except “page.link”
  • A username only
  • Modified today (so it probably synced wrong recently)

This is a classic corrupt item

Before this I had spent days uninstalling icloud app changing passwords etc. I even tried finding an older version of iCloud for windows but its actually surprisingly hard the only two version were 7.0 and 13.0 which were really old.

Anyway, hopefully this helps folks out because I've been through a lot of forum posts on this site and apple has closed to many discussions without a solution.
