Apple Music - Prioritising streaming over playing local files
This is probably going to seem a daft question but I'm going to ask it anyway.
Is there a way I can get Apple Music on my Mac mini to prioritise streaming from Apple Music rather than playing from my local mp3 library? The reason is simple, the streams from Apple Music's servers sound way better than the mp3's I ripped from my CD's. I digitised my CD collection over 10 years ago and ripped them at a fairly low bitrate (128kbps) because back then I didn't know any better, prioritising disk space over quality. Recently I have switched from Spotify to Apple Music and found that the streams sound so much better than the Spotify streams ever did and way better than my local library. However since I synced my local library I have noticed that my Mac is prioritising playing the local files instead of streaming. I know I can un-sync my local library but then I will lose the playlists I have spent the last month procuring. Also I know I could simply remove the local files but living in a semi rural location that often has lets say less than reliable internet (when it works its great) I need to still have my library on the Mac. I know I could get my CD's out of the loft and re-rip them at a much higher bit rate but when you have literally 100's of Cd's it is easier to stream the music.
So after that ramble Is there a way to configure Apple Music to stream from the servers and only playing local files when the servers are unavailable?
Kind regards
John
