iPadOS 26.0.1 changed display color

After weeks of hesitating, I just installed iPadOS 26.0.1 on my iPad Air 13-inch (M2). It changed the display color, which I am very, very particular about. I am guessing this change is related to the "Liquid Glass" settings, since they seem to be embedded in everything.

It seems the Nigh Shift setting is not working, which I have set to be ON from 4:00 AM to 3:59 AM (because I want it to be ON continuously and do not know any other way to accomplish this). This setting worked for years up to and including iOS 18, but now it does not. I also have Dark Mode ON continuously, the Brightness is set at less than 20%, and my Color Filter is set to Blue/Yellow with Intensity at Zero on the slider (all the way to the left). I have reduced the White Point to 50% and set Auto-Brightness to OFF. The result of these combined settings is that the display is still too WHITE and too BLUE for my vision to be comfortable. I want the display to be very WARM, not COOL.

Searching for a fix, AI suggested a Terminal command to disable the new settings from iPadOS 26 as follows:

defaults write -g com.apple.SwiftUI.DisableSolarium -bool YES

I have no idea what would happen if I try this.

Does anyone have a suggestion for restoring what were my "normal" display settings?

Thanks.

When searching for a solution to a technical problem, be very sceptical of AI-generated suggestions.

This is a perfect example of AI guidance being both misleading and totally useless. iPadOS doesn't have a command-line interface!

If your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:
