iPad 3rd gen not charging while in use

Suddenly stopped charging at 21% during use. Battery is healthy and power source is 20watts. I shut down the tablet and let it charge in switched off state. Battery is charged then. During use while charging the charging sign is not shown.

Given the age of your iPad3, it is highly likely that the iPad's battery is reaching the end of its usable life. As batteries age, they progressively lose capacity - and eventually will not accept charge. Battery charge indications may be unreliable at best. Otherwise, the Power Adapter may have a fault.

The most reliable method to determine the problem is substitution. Try charging your iPad with a different Power Adapter - ideally, for your iPad3 that does not benefit from modern charging standards (USB PD), a standard USB Type-A rated at 10W or greater.

You might also attempt to charge another device with your existing Power Adapter. This test will verify that the Power Adapter is operating as expected.

Be aware that your long ago obsolete iPad3 is no longer supported by Apple. Battery replacement will only be available from a third-party repair shop. Battery replacement is unlikely to be an economic proposition. Additionally, replacing the battery will reset the iPad, losing all installed Apps and locally stored data. While the data can be restored from a backup, you'll not be able to reinstall any Apps from the Apple App Store; all 32-bit Apps compatible with your iPad have been withdrawn and are no longer available.
