How to use Sumsung CLP 320 printer with Tahoe?

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro and I just upgraded it to Tahoe but I cannot find a way to use my printer with it.

All drivers are outdated, and since Samsung now is under HP, I would not expect to have an updated driver by them.

Is there another way to bypass this problem? Is there any reliable generic driver I could use? I already tried some with no luck.

Could you please help me out?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.0

Unless HP has continued to build new drivers for the CLP-320, and by new, I mean compatible with macOS Tahoe, then it is time to purchase a new printer, since this Samsung is not supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint solution.

A new printer consideration is one that has network capability and advertises that it is AirPrint compatible. With AirPrint, you no longer need to be concerned about vendor driver support, nor any need to install vendor software/drivers that are provided with the new printer.

Would it be correct to assume that the printer in question is a USB-only model? If nothing else helps, you may want to investigate whether a small and relatively inexpensive Linux-based Raspberry Pi print server and CUPS would allow a USB-connected Samsung CLP-320 to act as if it were an AirPrint printer, in order to make network printing from a modern Mac (or iPhone/iPad) possible. As mentioned by VikingOSX, an AirPrint printer can be used without additional drivers/software. Look upon this as an experiment. See, for example, the posts by Techguyuk in Can’t print with iPadOS17 - Apple Community.

HP Support – Welcome to the product support page! Samsung CLP-320 Color Laser Printer series

"HP Print and Scan Doctor is no longer maintained and should be removed due to potential security risks."

Under Software and Drivers, there are no selections for macOS – only for Windows and Linux. ("If your operating system is not listed then HP may not provide driver support for your product with that operating system.")

The User Manual does mention the Macintosh. It lists the system requirements as

  • Mac OS X 10.3 – 10.5, on PowerPC-based and Intel-based Macs.
  • Mac OS X 10.6, on Intel-based Macs

I can pretty much guarantee that any driver written for those machines and those versions of macOS will not be compatible with Apple Silicon Macs. (Rosetta 2 can't translate PowerPC and Intel kernel extensions.)

Your Mac is Intel-based but Tahoe is FIFTEEN major versions ahead of Snow Leopard. I think it's very likely that there have been changes that would keep a printer driver designed for Snow Leopard from working under Tahoe.
