How do I set up the HomePod to play music on my Mac instead of iPhone?

Is there any way of setting the home pod to play the library on my Mac when I tell it to "play music" rather than my iPhone by default?

It may not be exactly what you are looking for:

Yet it seems you can use AirPlay to hear songs that are playing on your Mac play on HomePod as well.

On your Mac:

You need to be signed in to Apple Music with your Apple Account details and have a song playing:

Click the AirPlay button, and choose the HomePod checkbox.

Eg: says:

Stream audio from Mac

Make sure your Mac and speakers are on the same network. Open the Apple Music app, click AirPlay in the playback controls, then select a speaker or multiple speakers.

If you can’t see the AirPlay icon or if you want to stream audio from a different app:

  1. On your Mac, select Control Centre in the menu bar.
  2. Click AirPlay under Sound.
  3. Select a speaker you want to play the current audio on.

You can’t use AirPlay to stream audio to multiple speakers from Control Centre on a Mac."
