Sharing music library with iphone

I want to download or share some songs on my iTunes library with my iPhone. I used to just plug in my phone to the Mac computer and sync the ones I wanted. But it seems all is changed and it is no longer called iTunes and now Apple Music.

anyone want to give me a step by step. I apparently have not save my library to I cloud either.

Starting with Catalina, Apple split up the functions of iTunes among several applications.

Now you use the Music application to import music from your own CDs, buy music from the iTunes Store, or access subscription songs from an Apple Music subscription. You use the Finder if you want to manually synchronize stuff from your Music, TV, etc. libraries to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

What Apple calls "iCloud Music Library" is a reference to synchronizing music using either

  • An iTunes Match subscription, or
  • An Apple Music subscription (where you have turned on "Sync Library")

Synchronizing purchased music over a USB cable would be an alternative to one of these methods – one that does not require a subscription to either service.

You can have an Apple Music subscription, keep "Sync Library" turned off, and synchronize purchased music using the Finder and a USB cable, if you like. (However, since the service only lets you download "offline listening copies" if "Sync Library" is turned on, this means only having access to subscription songs when you are connected to the Internet.)
