Airport Express creating a new network after changing ISPs

I have an Airport Express that I have used for decades, and it worked fine. However, when I changed ISPs it stopped working. When I restarted it, it set up a 2nd network. Not sure how to get it set up again. Any ideas on setting it up ahain. Yes, I know it is not Apple-supported, being old.

**Spectrum says it has to connect with ethernet.

Thanks for the info. How did the AirPort Express connect to your "old" modem/router? Wireless?

Keep in mind that the AirPort Express was designed more than 15 years ago and it used technology that was available at that time. The old....ancient actually....Express may simply not be compatible with newer Wi-Fi standards on the new Spectrum modem/router.

But.....we're willing to give things a try if you are willing to invest the time, and understand that what you are asking may not be possible.

We assume that you have performed the Factory Default Reset on the Express.....correct?

Temporarily for now, locate the AirPort Express in the same room as the Spectrum router for the setup

Power up the Express and let it run for a minute or two

Click on the Wi-Fi "bars" at the top of your Mac's screen

Look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station and click on AirPort Express just below that listing

AirPort Utility will open up automatically and if things look OK so far, AirPort Utility will suggest that the AirPort Express will be configured to "Join a wireless network"

Follow the prompts

Select the name of the Spectrum Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password for the network

Give the Express a minute to try to set things up

A green light on the Express would be nice to see after a minute or two

Unplug the Express and move it to a location where it can receive a good Wi-Fi signal from Spectrum router and power up the Express. A green light would again be a nice thing to see

At this point, the Express should be set up and working correctly. Give things a try.

Please post back on your results. If you see a message about an "Unexpected Error" during the setup, it is not looking good.....but.....we'll try to use your iPhone again on another try at setting up the AirPort Express.

Can you clarify a few things for us please?

When you say that you have "changed ISPs", does this mean that you have also changed your modem/router or gateway device?

Will the AirPort Express connect to your modem/router or gateway using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, or will it connect using only Wi-Fi?

Does your AirPort Express have only 1 Ethernet port, or does it have 2 Ethernet ports?

If the Expess has only 1 Ethernet port, please look on the side of the device for the Model Number. It is difficult to see with gray lettering on a white background, so you may need reading glasses and/or a flashlight to see the Model Number clearly.

The Model Number starts with an "A" followed by 4 numbers and may be either A1084 or A1264. Please clarify on that.

Since your new modem/router or gateway is already providing a wireless network signal, what service do you want the AirPort Express to perform on your network? In other words, what will the AirPort Express do?

Will you be using a Mac or an iPhone / iPad for the setup of the AirPort Express?

Sorry, that's a lot of questions, but sometimes what seems like a simple question involves working through multiple possible answers.

**Modem/router changed to Spectrum's.

Will the AirPort Express connect to your modem/router or gateway using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, or will it connect using only Wi-Fi?

**Spectrum says it has to connect with ethernet. However, the modem and the Express are on different floors. No ethernet possible here.

Does your AirPort Express have only 1 Ethernet port, or does it have 2 Ethernet ports?

**Looks like one

If the Expess has only 1 Ethernet port, please look on the side of the device for the Model Number. It is difficult to see with gray lettering on a white background, so you may need reading glasses and/or a flashlight to see the Model Number clearly.

**THere doesn't seem to be any info on the express itself.

Since your new modem/router or gateway is already providing a wireless network signal, what service do you want the AirPort Express to perform on your network? In other words, what will the AirPort Express do?

**It will work with Airfoil to play music downstairs from the iMac. This worked perfectly until I swithed to Spectrum. Rogue Amoeba (https://rogueamoeba.com/) makes Airplay.

Will you be using a Mac or an iPhone / iPad for the setup of the AirPort Express?

**Probably the Mac.

Thanks
