Preventing music loss when subscribing to Apple Music

Hi,

More than half of my girlfriend’s MP3s disappeared from her library after she subscribed to Apple Music. I’m thinking about subscribing myself, but I’m really worried about losing my collection. I’ve spent years building my library and have tons of downloaded music that I can’t afford to lose.

Could you please tell me how to make sure this doesn’t happen?
