Messages Takes Up ALL our space

Hi,

We have iCloud, but whenever we turn on messages on any of our devices, they take up 50-75% of our space on the phone/iPad/computer. I don't want to delete these records/messages. Can you please give us an option to set a maximum GB on any device on how much GB of messages downloads from iCloud? Or maybe have it strip the heavy data and only download what is searched/demanded? Thanks in advance.
