My Sony ZV-E10 won't connect to Final Cut Pro

I have followed the steps to connect my Sony ZV-E10 to Final Cut Pro.

Streaming is set up on the Sony.

I open File/Import/Media and the Sony does not appear in the list of available cameras.

The Sony works with FaceTime, Zoom, Zencastr, but not Final Cut Pro.

However when I set the camera to storage mode, Final Cut Pro recognises the camera and I can import pictures, movies etc.

Does this mean my $1000 camera can't be used to record video directly into Final Cut Pro?? sad face

You can't record directly in FCP. You could record in QuickTime and then import the file into FCP.

Be aware that the video coming out of the ZV-E10 in streaming mode is not that great, it is designed for a light footprint for streaming efficiency:

  • Video Format: MJPEG
  • Resolution: HD720 (1280×720)
  • Frame Rate: 30 fps or 25 fps
  • Audio Format: PCM, 48 kHz, 16 bit, 2 ch

So unless you are working with a 720p project, the frame size will be smaller than 1920, or much smaller than 4K.
