My 2022 MacBook Air 250GB is using a lot of storage space

My Mac Air is always complaining ion about storage whenever I want to update software to the extent that I have deleted critical apps like Teams, Adobe and others even removed photos - the apps currently only take up 10,1gig and most are apple apps. It is a 250gig M2 laptop for travel and light work but for some reason most of the space is consumed by the system - right now the system data took up 167,6gig and Mac OS is eating up 26,3gig, thats a lot of space taken. Why so much Apple? Is there something I am doing wrong and is there stuff I can remove so the laptop has space - I can't even save a movie for inflight entertainment or music.

Why so much Apple?

Apple are not here and won't respond in this user-to-user setting.

If you are using Time Machine for backups, see if its saved "snapshots" are piling up;

Speculation on why the storage gets so big often points to third-party apps and devices. Some printers save caches that don't clear. Some useless antivirus, "cleaning," and VPN apps may also contribute. Google Chrome has taken a few hits as a potential suspect as well.

A Safe Mode boot can do some cleaning up. See:

👉🏻 What's not in the instructions: I find that Safe Mode can need a little time to do its work. I let my computers "soak" in Safe Mode for about 30 minutes to give it time. Once done, restarting the computer returns it to normal mode.

The free version will do nicely for this purpose, although the app is worthy of our financial support.
