Older Apple TV & App Store
I have an older AppleTV.
It does not have an App Store icon or option.
Is it possible to update further?
Or is it trash?

Depends on the model of Apple TV and what tvOS it is currently running.

The App Store on Apple TVs was introduced with the 4th generation Apple TV and the first 4K Apple TV and cannot be removed.
If you have something older than that, it will not have an App Store at all regardless of what it can update to.
To update check Settings ➜ General ➜ Software Update.
