MTLCompilerService takes up to 2GB of memory in macOS Tahoe 26.0.1

It idles at half a gigabyte but sometimes jumps to 1.99GB, I have not observed a certain usage path that leads to this. To bring the memory usage down to 0.5 (which is still a lot):

kill -9 <main PID>

Does it matter which one? The one that suddenly starts to grow in a memory consumption.
In macOS 15.7.1 the MTLCompilerService processes do not go above 50MB. on the same configuration.

As you wish

Even on your screenshot there are 2 processes with abnormal behaviour.

This release is a memory leaking nightmare, let Google chrome idle for 24 hours and check out memory usage, in my case that was 6GB, an easy test for the always-on desktop.

Short and unpopular suggestion for some

May consider an alternative www.brrave.com which is essentially Google Chrome without the Google baggage
