Mac mini does not detect my soundbar as a 5.1 output. Only detects as a 2 channel system.

I recently added a Mac mini to my desk. I also have a Alienware M15r7 to which I had connected my Polk Audio Magnifi Max soundbar + two surround sound speakers + subwoofer (5.1) via HDMI. Using the Netflix app for windows and Apple Music app as well, I used to get dolby digital output after connecting my soundbar as an extended display. Windows 11 with Dolby app sends Dolby Atmos to my soundbar which the soundbar detects and switches to that mode instantly.

But connecting the same to Mac mini, it detects the soundbar as a 2 channel speaker system. I am unable to get Dolby Atmos output from Apple Music. I have enabled Dolby atmos and HDMI passthrough as well.

I have seen videos where professionals use a controller/amplifier to which they have connected their speakers and get Dolby Atmos output then.

Unfortunately, in my case, I do not have that setup.

Any suggestions will be very helpful! Please let me know if any more details are needed from my end.

Thank you!

Just like with any audio interface capabilities to access in/outs correctly and have macOS to “see” everything, i hope Polk has some support software for macOS (drivers) ? And hopefully they have proper updates for recent macOS versions?

That’s the typical reason for your system not to be recognized properly.

Often, audio stuff that used to work properly with older macOS versions are becoming incorrect with newer versions. Just hope that support has not been discontinued for your model/unit.
