Apple Pay not working for online purchases on iPhone Air and MacBook Pro

New iPhone Air. Have credit and debit cards in Wallet and all have been verified but online purchases using Apple Pay do not work (displays an exclamation mark). Signed out of iCloud account which removed all cards so added again and finally got all cards verified but Apple Pay still not working.

Tried to make purchase on MacBook Pro to eliminate an iPhone specific problem but same result - Apple Pay payment does not go through... does not quite get to the fingerprint authorisation. Tried alternative cards to eliminate any problem with a particular card but the result is the same. Checked Apple website and there is no problem flagged with Apple Pay.

I am running iOS 26.0.1 on iPhone and Sequoia 15.7.1 on Mac.

No problem of course making a purchase not using Apple Pay.

If I contacted Apple support I am sure I will go round in the same circles - anyone else having problems or can suggest a way out that doesn't involve going to an Apple store?

What country are you in? Use of Apple Pay is restricted to those countries that support the service.

Do you have your screen zoomed or enlarged? Have you increased your font size or made it bold? This can cause issues on secure sites and it’s recommended to use default screen and text sizes.

I know I’m answering my own post here but I suspect this may be an issue with the version of Safari (26.0.1) and Apple Pay. Using another browser showed that Apple Pay was not an option to use, the icon simply wasn’t there.

I’m in the UK. Apple Pay has always worked. All settings on iphone at default values. If its failing on the Mac as well as iPhone it seems to point to Safari. Strange how the Apple Pay icon appeared as a valid payment method on the site I was on but then changing to Firefox the icon was not present.

Have you tried any other websites? It could be an isolated case of their website having issues.

The problem happened on two different websites. However, I tried again today on another site and it works! So don't know whether it was a site specific issue but whatever it now works so problem sorted. Thanks for your input.

I am also encountering the same issue with Apple Pay, Everything looks fine on my end my cards are verified and appear active in Wallet, but any time I try to use Apple Pay for an online food order at Texas Roadhouse, I get the same exclamation mark and the payment won’t go through. I’ve already tried signing out and back into iCloud, removing and re-adding cards, testing on both my iPhone and MacBook, and even checking for software updates. Still, no luck the transaction never reaches the fingerprint or Face ID authorization step. It’s really frustrating since Apple Pay used to work perfectly before, and now I can’t find any clear reason why it’s failing. I’d love to hear if anyone’s found a fix or workaround for this.

Have you updated the Texas Roadhouse app to version 8.1.0? It was released over a month ago and the developers may not have optimized the app for iOS 28.X.X yet.
