Why can't I redownload all of my purchased songs from iTunes?

Trying to re-download my previously purchased songs on iTunes on my Mac will not work. For any given album, it only downloads one song and then stops. It will not go beyond one song. And I do not have the option to buy them again either because they're marked as purchased in iTunes. Are all these purchases just lost forever? Other users reported the same as far back as February 2025 and there's still no resolution.
