AppleTV 4K HD - Cannot update from 17.1 to 26

  • model A1842
  • Performed full reset.
  • Every attempt to upgrade results in error message - "Unable to update - try again later".

Make sure to do the reset and update option. That will ensure it's put back to factory settings as well as reinstalling TVOS (which typically will be to the latest version). If you still confirm it hasn't changed then it's best to talk directly with a rep from Apple.

The jump possibly is too big. If that is the case, then how do I update to 18? I see no option to do that.


But I had auto-update on forever and for some reason it refused to budge from 17.1.


I've tried all combinations of restart, reset, update.


"contact Apple Support" eventually leads me back to these forums.


Looks like the device is effectively un-upgradeable from now on.
