Multiple issues: Read carefully: Solution to all:

Folks I've been using FCP to edit a feature, RED footage. Multiple times I came across serious problems which could have sunk the entire film. Especially this apple discussion board - there are a bunch of "experts" who just ask the standard questions: "what's your drive formatted to", "Use this 3rd party software to run a scan" and not on one occasion was a solution provided. In fact when I hinted at this the moderator deleted my post.

Here are some of the issues: Issue 1: Audio output via X2Pro suddenly stopped working. X2pro said contact FCP.Apple. Apple said contact X2Pro. Discussion boards no clue. Issue 2: Suddenly project stopped snapshotting (duplicate was fine) + would not copy into a new library. Issue 3: Biggest issue: FCP stopped opening. "Waiting to validate audio units". Worse - every single back up dated back to 6 months to the very first back up also suddenly stopped opening.

As you can imagine it was a traumatic time - these issues cost approximately 7 weeks of time in total. But luckily luckily all eventually got resolved. If you ever have any of these three issues pop up just message me.

And most importantly- make a back up of the fcp project with the media every 3 days at the very latest. Trust me - one day this advice will save you. This is the one thing that will resolve everything and anything. If you are working on FCP you MUST make a full project back up every three days at the latest (ideally every day). I know it sounds excessive - but one day - one day soon you will thank me.

There are no "experts" here as we* are all users like yourself.

We* all have different amounts of experience using FCP but there is no way we* can diagnose and rectify every single problem especially as we* cannot see how a person's computer is setup or how it is being used.

There are an almost infinite number of permutations of setup and use that we* can know nothing about which is why we* have to ask the "usual" questions in an attempt to discover what might be at fault.

*Actually there is no "we" as everyone is free to chip in with suggestions.

"what's your drive formatted to, use this 3rd party software to run a scan and not on one occasion was a solution provided."

Actually, MANY solutions have been provided via the standard troubleshooting methods. And your issues are NOT typical of most users, including myself who has been editing features, TV shows, and commercials for as long as FCP has existed. Never had those issues. And as retired IT "expert" I've always recommended nightly full system backups no matter what software you use or what type of work you do.

Your issues are frustrating, "we" understand that. But not typical of most users, and without detailed information and without the data gained with the invaluable standard troubleshooting, we have no way to help you.

And especially what Ian said.
