Adding payment cards for Apple Pay to Wallet on company-owned devices with Managed Apple Accounts
We’ve been experiencing a major limitation with Managed Apple Accounts provisioned through Apple Business Manager (ABM): it’s currently not possible to add payment or transit cards to Wallet for Apple Pay on iPhones.
I confirmed this directly with ABM support, and they could not provide any information on whether this feature is on the roadmap.
This has created a real barrier for us when trying to fully adopt domain capture and federated sign-in with Microsoft Entra ID. Many of our employees still rely on unmanaged Apple IDs, because they need to use company credit cards in Wallet for Apple Pay on their iPhones.
Our current workaround:
- For employees who do not need Apple Pay, we create Managed Apple Accounts via ABM and manage their devices with Microsoft Intune (MDM).
- For employees who do need Apple Pay, we create unmanaged Apple IDs using an email alias with a separate domain. They can then sign in with that ID and add the company credit card. All other policies and app configurations remain enforced via Intune.
This solution works, but it’s far from ideal. It fragments our identity strategy, prevents full use of ABM domain capture, and complicates account management.
Feature request:
It would be extremely helpful if Apple could allow Managed Apple Accounts to add payment and transit cards to Wallet. This would remove the need for workarounds, improve security, and let organizations fully leverage ABM + federated sign-in without sacrificing Apple Pay.
