Phishing scam from “Apple Support” on iPhone

While using my Safari browser on my iPhone, I just received a supposed “Warning! Security Data Breach!” of a virus infection of my “Apple device”. The warning was supposedly from “Apple Support TollFree” with a phone number and pop-up window saying ” “stafsat.site” Would Like to Access the Camera”. I did not respond to the pop-up nor did I call the number. A Google search indicated that the phone number was linked to Chinese text (in spite of the US country code) and the staffsat.site was too new for any info to be available. I tried deleting (swiping up) the Safari window several times but each time I launch Safari, the same warning message shows up. Meanwhile, I cannot use Safari. What do I do?

  • Close Safari.
  • Go to Settings > Apps > Safari.
  • Press the Clear History and Website Data button.
  • On the screen that comes up, select a timeframe (e.g., All history) and also turn on the Close All Tabs switch.
  • Press the Clear History button.

Pressing the Clear History button with the Close All Tabs switch turned on keeps Safari from automatically reopening the sites you were visiting – in this case, the scam site. Clearing history completely, or back to a point before you first visited the scam site, makes it less likely you will accidentally go back to that place.
