MacOS Tahoe 26.0.1 bluetooth issue with 3rd party devices

I just updated my 2020 intel iMac to Tahoe 26.0.1 and after start up and reaching the login page, my bluetooth keyboard and mouse will not connect. I have a generic keyboard and my mouse is a Logitech MX Ergo. I was able to switch my keyboard and mouse to the 2.4 Ghz using their respective USB dongles and I was able to login into my iMac. After login, then the bluetooth connection to the keyboard and mouse works. Rebooted several times and the issue showed up after every reboot. The magic mouse and keyboard from Apple which are also bluetooth don't have this problem, it seems that only affect 3rd party devices. Has anyone seen this issue?

Try this:

System Settings > Privacy & Security > File Vault > Turn Off

I just tried this and seams to be working back (restarted and turned on/off several times my mac)

File Vault protection may be blocking pre-login hardware access to 3rd party devices

I'm experiencing the same issue with macOS Tahoe 26.0.1, using a MacBook Pro M3 laptop, and a Logitech pebble i345. After a day of not using the laptop the mouse won't work. It still shows in the Bluetooth window, under "My Devices" as "Not Connected. My workaround has been to "Forget this device" and pair it again. It's annoying, but that's the only workaround I have at this time. I'm not comfortable in turning off the File Vault because it has broader implications. I took the advice from leroydouglas and filed a bug report.

No. This is not a 3rd party responsibility. THE FACT that the bluetooth doesn't work and doesn't discover ANY devices is a fault in MacOS for me not the 3rd party manufacturer, whose devices work everywhere and did work prior to the 26.0.1. update.

The recommendation remains the same True_Steps....

I had this issue from a prior update, maybe the one before Tahoe. What I found is that after starting the Mac and the keyboard not connecting, just restarting seemed to fix the issue permanently (for now). I think it's a bug in the bluetooth connection manager since it's able to repair without issue. I think FileVault may not be related and just restarting/re-pairing/forgetting several times might be the fix.

I did also update to tahoe 26.0.1 and installed logioptions+ for my mx keyboard so that could have played a part, although I don't recommend upgrading to tahoe right now since my m3 Mac now struggles with web browsing...

The issue is after booting up/restart, the iMac doesn't connect to my third party keyboard/mouse. Never had this issue prior to 26.0.1 . After I'm able to login, the problem doesn't manifest after waking up the iMac. Yes, I can switch to 2.4Ghz and log in, but the point is that the new version of MacOS broke the ability to connect via bluetooth to third party peripherals after startup.

I have the same issue 2020 Intel iMac 5k.

at startup, no BT device is recognized. The status “bar” at the top right corner of the login screen also only gives me the option to select a keyboard layout.

cable mouse works fine. After login, BT works just fine without any other action required.

after login, the issue does not persist when I relog eg after screen lock. Only after reboot I run into the same issue again.

My mouse is a Logitech MX, however I do not believe this is related to the mouse specifically but rather to how BT works at login.

Welcome to the club, I have the same iMac. The issue doesn’t affect Apple’s Magic Mouse and keyboard, both are Bluetooth. Only 3rd party devices, but why only after startup?

Certain misconceptions that persist regarding the relationship between Apple Computer and third-party devices and accessories.

These misconceptions often arise when third-party products fail to function or meet user expectations.

Apple is responsible for addressing issues with its own operating systems, and accessories.

However, Apple cannot rectify user choices of third-party products  installed and used on their computers.

This responsibility lies solely with the third party to evaluate the performance of their products when used on an Apple Computer running the intended version of macOS.

I'm experiencing similar issues but a little different.

After updating my M2 Pro (with the higher tier M2 pro with more cores) Macbook Pro 14", bluetooth functionality stopped working altogether, NOTHING shows up in the bluetooth bar. Whenever I reboot the computer, my accessories work BEFORE logging in. After I log in, I can't see any devices show up in my bluetooth. My headphones don't work, my keyboard doesn't show up, my mouse doesn't show up, nothing.

I tried rebooting the computer over and over again, nothing. I had to use my macbook and the touchpad to interact with the computer. Since I work from home and I rely on this computer as my main source of income, this is understandably frustrating.

After a while, my keyboard and mouse started working, I don't know when / why, but i'm afraid to reboot my computer now, that I might lose them again. My headphones still can't connect for the life of me.

I'm not used to this quality of SW updates by apple, this is outright horrible. Whilst I also have a windows computer and windows updates are annoying, it NEVER broke essential functionality like this.

Anybody knows any workaround?
