Still experiencing issues after update (26.0.1)
Hello,
Even after the update, when I tested it, the first song was still playing on about 50% of the albums, even though I had selected a different one.
It's so sad. What has become of Apple?!

With any album on the Mac, the Play button you see next to the album will always play the first song, unless you choose to Shuffle the album. Selecting a song with a single click does not change this behavior. If you want to play the selected song then choose the play triangle next to the song or double click it. That is exactly how it worked with Mac OS 18 too.
Not sure when you say you selected a song if you mean you double clicked it or just did the single click to select it, then tapped Play next to the Album.
