AirPods Pro 3 – “Find My” and Hearing Test not available on iOS 18.7 despite Apple’s website saying it should work

Hello,

I recently bought AirPods Pro (3rd generation), , and I’m facing several unexpected issues.

According to Apple’s official AirPods Pro 3 page, the Find My feature, the Hearing Test, and other core functions should work starting with iOS 18 or later.

However, on my iPhone running iOS 18.7:

  • I cannot access Find My for my AirPods.
  • The Hearing Test option is missing.
  • I cannot disable Transparency mode.

When I contacted Apple Support, they told me these AirPods require iOS 26 to work properly.

This information is contradictory, because the website clearly states iOS 18 or later or air pods pro 2 or later

my AirPods has the name:  ACCESSORY_MODEL_NAME_39  this issue should not be happening, which makes me think this is an Apple bug that will hopefully be fixed in a future update.

Could someone please confirm, Will Apple release a fix soon so that these features work as advertised on iOS 18?

Thank you for your help and any official clarification

Kevin

I have the same issue, am on iOS 18.7.1 and plan to stay there for now.

Could you check what firmware you have for your APP3? Should be 8A353, but a newer 8A358 came out recently. Can you try to have it upgraded and tell us if that changes anything to the displayed model name? I doubt it will affect the missing features for which you'll need iOS26.

8A358 is the latest firmware for APP3 and APP2. My APP2 picked up 8A358, but the APP3 still not. I hope this too is not linked to needing iOS 26.

I’m having the exact same issue. I’d like to remind everyone that Apple promises three months of free Apple Music with the purchase of AirPod Pros 3. Apple Music won’t even prompt the discount. Unless the offer clearly stipulates that one must own a device capable of running iOS 26 or above to claim the offer, then apple is responsible for keeping up their end of the bargain. The apple support app clearly recognizes that I own this Pair of Airpods. I’m Not sure why the Apple Music app can’t do the same thing. If they did indeed advertise them as compatible with hearing test and the find my feature. Then any medical insurance company that payed for or subsidized the cost of the new airpods might might have a bone to pick with Cupertino.
