Cannot connect Apple TV to Vizio Soundbar

I just got a new Apple TV box and when I hooked it up, the audio doesn’t come through the Vizio soundbar. Under the Audio and Video settings, it doesn’t list the soundbar as an audio option, only TV speakers.

The Vizio soundbar is connected to TV via HDMI/eARC.

The built in Vizio TV apps and my Google TV thingy both output to the Vizio soundbar by default, without me having to change any settings.

Any suggestions?

When an external sound system is connected to the TV via HDMI or optical, then the TV should take care of getting the audio there.

I would suggest to keep the Apple TV set to output audio to “TV Speakers” (= over HDMI), and also set the TV to output audio to the soundbar.
