Simple saving online image to files gone (safari / iPadOS 26)

Hi everyone,

Since updating to iPadOS 26, I can no longer easily save images from Safari (or other browsers) directly to the Files app.

Previously, I could just long-press an image and choose Save to Files, pick a folder, and it was done. Now I often get a kind of preview page and if I use the share sheet, it tries to save an HTML file instead of the actual image.

Has Apple removed the direct Save to Files option, or is there a new way to do this that I am missing?

Would love to hear if other users are seeing the same behavior, or if there’s a workaround to save a simple JPG/PNG to Files again.
