Just bought an iPhone 17 – device won’t recognize portable monitor for screen mirroring

I just got an iPhone 17 today, and when I try to connect it to my Selfie Monitor Screen SYNCO XView M4, it always shows 'searching' but doesn’t recognize any device. However, when I connect the monitor to my old iPhone 11 or iPad Air M3, it works fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? Could it have something to do with the new iOS 26? By the way, the monitor doesn’t require Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to connect.

I’ve also tried resetting my network settings, restarting my phone, switching airplane mode on and off, and even resetting the device, but none of these fixed the problem.

The Synco product description now has a "Firmware Update for iPhone 17 Lineup". There are two files to download: the firmware update itself (intended for the monitor to run, not for your computer or your iPhone to run), and an instruction sheet.

Looks like you'll need a computer, a USB flash drive, and a powered USB-C dock to help update the firmware on the monitor. (If you have a USB-C dock for your computer system, you could temporarily unplug it from your computer, and its accessories, for use in updating the phone.)

Was having the same issues but I have gotten the Moman/Synco XView M4 working with my iPhone 17 Pro. This is what I did:

  1. Updated the firmware, I only have Windows PCs so milage may vary on Mac. I downloaded the update package and followed the instructions. My desktop wouldn't detect it at all but my laptop did. You may need to turn the M4 off then plug it into USB then turn it on, not sure. But I did eventually get it detected on my win laptop and successfully updated the firmware.
  2. At this point it wouldnt show in screen mirroring on my iphone 17 pro or old 11. Then I powercycled the M4 a couple of times and it magically showed up in the screen mirroring list under "show more...". BUT it failed to connect when I selected it.
  3. I then followed the instructions to change the wireless channel it broadcasts on to 149 which I think is the default but I'd been playing with it before. Its in the user manual, you have to long press two of the buttons on the M4 and a menu will popup to change the channel. Not sure but you might also need to power cycle the M4 after changing the channel.

Then it all magically started working. FYI it seems to lose connection when you phone goes to the lock screen.

I was looking into how it connects since it's not via bluetooth (for screen mirroring) or traditional wifi. Apparently does use wifi behind the scenes but as a direct connection between devices not through your home network etc. AFAIK this is how Airplay and some Carplay work.

i just checked details of the monitor. Looks like it uses this P2P technology, allowing connection without wifi or bluetooth.

If this monitor is not connected using USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode), or using AirPlay, then very likely, whatever input it is expecting is something that the iPhone does not natively support.

At best, you might need to install a special app provided by the monitor manufacturer. At worst, you might have purchased a monitor that is not compatible with your iPhone.

I'm not sure the 17 supports an external display via USB-C.
I know it only supports USB-2 speeds on the USB-C port.

The Technical Specifications for the iPhone 17 say

----------

USB-C connector with support for:

  • Charging
  • DisplayPort
  • USB 2 (up to 480Mb/s)

----------

With the Pro and Pro Max models, you get support for Charging, DisplayPort, and USB 3 (up to 10Gb/s).

I’m experiencing the same issue. I was able to update the firmware but I still cannot mirror the screen with my iPhone 17 pro (I’m able to do it with my 16).

If you updated the firmware as per the "Firmware Update for iPhone 17 Lineup" section on the manufacturer's site, be sure to contact them and let them know that their fix did not work for you.

Unless someone tells them, they may think that that firmware has put the problem behind them.

by using 44 Chanels and power on and off few times the m4, it finally showed in the screen share.

But my big problem is that the videos have frame rate problems when using screen share, even with a Mac. When using screen share, the sound gets out of sync and the rate gets messed up, so I can't make music videos as nothing match the. That is a real nightmare and it seems to be the phone's problem. I don't know if I have a faulty 17 pro or all of them are doing it

Anybody tried ?

I had issues to connect it after the firmware update (only PC to update, so good luck..). switching to 44 channels and turning off on few times finally managed to pop on the screen share list.

Recording with it was a nightmare, the lag getting worth and worth the longer the video is. I think it was a bit better using black magic app than finalcut cam... At some point the iphone17 itself wasn't show the correct state or recording, completely messing up my day. Stuff I thought were recording were not and vice verse.

The videos themselves have the audio completely desynchronising from images. That stuff is a nightmare to work with.

Hi, thank you for your comment. This monitor doesn't not require connection to the port. It can be connected wirelessly by just selecting the monitor name on the screen monitoring on Iphone. But the monitor name doesn't appear on only Iphone 17.

Generally such periperals need to be signed into the same wi-fi router as the phone, eg my television acts as a monitor because it is on my wi-fi.
