Saving a Time Machine backup from an old computer

I finally "decomissioned" my trusty MacPro 5,1 when I closed my business in July. I had been using Time Machine for backups for some time and was able to transfer everything to my M1 MacMini. MacMini working well.

I have the external disk I used for Time Machine backups from the MacPro and would like to erase it and start using it with the MacMini. Is there a way to save the most recent TimeMachine backup from the MacPro in case I need to check something in the future?

Thanks

if you want that old backup for something, just set it aside. Use a different disk for your new backups.

Or if you want, you could keep using it, "inherit" the old backup and keep adding to it.

But one day it may stop and say, "I can't continue, you will need start a new backup on this drive." Then the copies of your old data will no longer be restorable.

Drives are cheap.
