Can’t play Wordle on iPhone 17 pro

When I visit the NY Times website in safari on iOS 26 using my new iPhone 17 pro I can get to the page where one launches Wordle, but when I click the button to play all I see is a black screen with no controls. I can play Wordle in the NYTimes iOS app. But not using Safari.
